Assuming we go down this road, then the screen will have a fixed resolution and all the members will know what this is. If they want the best from it they will size their images to fit exactly using their own software rather than leaving it to the c…

This is a very interesting idea and tempting proposition. One negative: few people have monitors of this capability; so there will still be a similar issue of people now knowing how their image will appear until it is displayed. Would we 1. size im…

My first score was 11 but a second try got it down to 3 :o) Didn't have to squint either.

When I've bought a 500mm (equiv) lens I'll be up for it too.

I managed 7, but considering the age of my eyes (and my monitor) I was quite pleased with that. I screen printed my test and I still can't see where I got it wrong.

It clearly pays to take time to do the test as well possible, taking care to resolve each row as best you can. I tried again, taking more care (and on a diffrent screen) and scored 4. I'm happy with that.

Digital Images Projector versus Screens.

No projector yet available and within our budget (i.e. costing less than £2,000) is capable of doing justice to the work that we produce. So I am agitating to drop the idea of using a projector for internal competition. What we have been doing is have digital images (less than 1Mpx) exhibited as though they are slides (more than 10Mpx).

We are quite happy with prints (up to 28Mpx) being shown at a maximum dimension of 20 ins., so why are we insisting on DPIs (under 1Mpx) being shown at a minimu… Continue

Poster in Jessops Epsom

Today I've given Jessops Epsom some A4 and A5 copies of the version of our poster that Harold sent me. They will display them. As per Harold's suggestion they agreed to give a copy to people who by SLRs. (In fact the assistant grabbed one right away to give to her sister!).

(The colour toner ran out of the printer at work today so they are only B&W; whenever the new design is finished I'll replace them with the new ones in colour).

The British Journal of Photography" is launching a campaign to counter the rising paranoia that targets every photographer who shoot images in public places.

They are calling all photographers, amateur or professional, to join our protest by taking part in a visual campaign, designed to raise awareness about increasing restrictions on shooting in tFhe public realm, which together with abuse of police powers and increasing hostility f… Continue

Met issue photography advice

The Metropolitan Police have issued a photography advice to police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), to provide a summary of the Metropolitan Police Service’s guidance around photography in public places.

It states “members of the public and the media do not need a permit to film or photograph in public places and police have no power to stop them filming or photographing incidents or police personnel”, and that the “Terrorism Act 2000 does not prohibit people from… Continue
